Quantonom live

Quantonom is an ongoing collaborative project by artist Vaclovas Nevčesauskas and composer Vytautas V. Jurgutis. The audiovisual installation connects sound and image through an engineered mechatronic system constructed by Nevčesauskas.

The sculptures operate like musical instruments: mechanically moving robotic arms activate an algorithmic score, while screens move choreographically through space and reflect projected images. Within the field of moving objects, the work produces an imagined macro-space of unfamiliar particles.

Inspired by early research in quantum mechanics, the images appear to settle like dust on luminous moving points in space. The sound component by Vytautas V. Jurgutis uses additive, wavetable, concatenative, granular and subtractive synthesis, as well as techniques of sound processing and fragmentation.

The spacious cinema hall of the National Gallery of Art becomes a laboratory for speculative perception: a controlled environment in which image, sound and mechanical movement continuously test one another.
