Metrodots

Metrodots is an audiovisual installation with sound by Vytautas V. Jurgutis, presented at Sodų 4 Gallery.

The work begins from theories that are difficult to reconcile with ordinary perception: the idea that the smallest particles do not hold a stable state, and that their condition changes when they are observed. In the installation, this problem is shifted into the familiar relation between viewer and artwork. Is the viewer's consciousness necessary for the work to become active?

The hypnotic kinetic structure acts like a field of photons: without the viewer it follows its own sonic and visual rhythm; as soon as someone enters its spatial field, that rhythm changes. The visitor can no longer remain outside the work. By being present, they alter it, while the work in turn begins to act on the viewer's attention.
